A Non-Food Detox To Rebalance Your Life

Do you crave some time to recharge your batteries?  Are you overwhelmed by your life?  It may be time to detox, and I’m not talking about food or drinks.

This is an opportunity to look at your life and discover where the toxins are hiding. You probably hear about toxic chemicals in household products and toxic hormones in our food.  But did you know that toxins can come in the form of a messy closet, a scattered mind, negative relationships, bad habits, and routines that have put you in a rut?

You’re busy. I get it, I REALLY do.  But you owe yourself the time to look at all the food and non-food things that nourish you and get them in order so that you can be HAPPY. Fulfilled. Vibrant. Loving yourself again.

Did you know that you could start to detox your life in just 10 minutes a day for 7 days and for free?

1. Set a timer for 15 minutes.  That’s nothing! 

Spend that 15 minutes decluttering just one area of your home.  A junk drawer that’s been driving you crazy?  The mud room that needs to be swept out?  A load of laundry that needs to be run and some clothes folded out of the dryer?  A stack of magazines that needs to be recycled?  Some dishes in the sink that can be done and put away?  Annoying little tasks that stack up but you’ll feel BETTER once they are done.  DO THIS EVERY DAY!

2.     Write a note.

Have you been meaning to tell an old friend that you’ve been thinking of her?  Did you have an argument with a family member that is still unresolved? Is there someone you’ve been meaning to connect with?  Write a letter, email, or quick note to someone.  Resolve any outstanding issues or things that have been on your mind.  Healthy, positive connections with others will help you feel BETTER!

3.     Diffuse essential oils.

Aroma can absolutely impact your mood….. think back to your childhood, is there a certain smell that brings you back to that time and makes you feel happy? Maybe the smell of honeysuckle from your old backyard or the pie your grandmother always made or the smell of your favorite dinner.  In the same way, essential oils can impact your mood!  Whether you need some energy to get going in the morning (Cheer blend or Citrus Bliss Blend) some focus and concentration for work or bill paying (wild orange + peppermint), calming and de-stressing (lavender or Serenity blend), or feeling more gratitude and joy (Elevation blend), the oils can be an AMAZING tool in your toolbox! 4.     Make just one commitment to yourself.

What is just ONE thing you can do for yourself this week to love on yourself?  Do you LOVE manicures but never take the time out of your hectic schedule to go get one?  Do you enjoy reading a book out in the sun but feel it’s selfish to take time out from the family to do that?  Do you want to go shopping for some new clothes all by yourself with no deadline?  We MUST take care of ourselves and recharge our own batteries so we can be at our best in the rest of our lives – for family, for work, for life!  It is NOT selfish – do things just for you once in awhile!

5.     Breathe. 

Sounds too simple to be helpful but it’s powerful. Take a long breath in for about 7 seconds. Hold it for 4 seconds. Breathe out hard for 5 seconds.  As you breathe in, imagine clean pure cleansing air coming into your lungs. As you hold it, imagine that clean air gathering up everything dirty or toxic.  As you exhale imagine all those negative thoughts, stresses, and toxins exiting your body and disappearing into the environment.  Do this repeatedly for a few minutes as often as you wish throughout the day!

Best Essential Oil Blends for Kids – Immune Boosting, Sleep, Calmness and More!

At our house we use essential oils every day….. it didn’t start out this way (I originally bought the oils to just help us when we were “under the weather”) but once we experienced how well the oils worked, we just ended up using them for more and more things!  My favorite uses for the kids are below….. I hope you find a great idea to use in your house!

Diffusing oils is SO easy and simple.  Just fill a diffuser with water (tap or filtered, not distilled), add about 5 drops of essential oil and hit GO!  You’ll be breathing in oils for hours and this is extremely gentle and safe.

For topical use, rollerballs are THE BOMB.  They make it so clean and easy!  I keep them in my purse, my son keeps one in his backpack, and they are all over the house for a variety of uses.  To make a rollerball all you do is all the desired number of essential oil drops (I like 9-15 drops total) then add a carrier oil (my favorite is fractionated coconut oil because of it’s long shelf life and lack of scent).

Here are my Favorites!


Immune Boosting Blend

  • 3 drops Melaleuca 
  • 2 drops Wild Orange 
  • 3 drops OnGuard blend 
  • 2 drops Frankincense Fractionated Coconut Oil to the top

I like to swipe this on the bottom of their feet and up/ down their spines before bed! 

Focus Blend {great for school and homework}

  • 3 drops Peppermint
  • 3 drops Wild Orange 
  • 3 drops Rosemary 
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil to the top

Tummy Tamer Blend

  • 10 drops DigestZen blend 
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil to the top

Roll this directly on the stomach area.

Calm Down Blend

  •  3 drops Balance blend 
  • 3 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Juniper Berry 
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil to the top

SleepyTime Blend

  • 3 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Vetiver
  • 3 drops Cedarwood
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil to the top

Roll on spine, bottoms of feet and chest. Also diffuse overnight using a diffuser that can run for 8 hours like the AromaLite.

Added bonus of using oils?  The kiddos are learning to turn to NATURE for problem solving, not chemicals or pharmacies.  Game changer!

Trouble Sleeping? Here's the Easiest and Most Surprising Solution

Sleep trouble is so pervasive these days, not only for overworked stressed out adults but for over-scheduled busy kids as well.  Well, if there was a simple and straightforward solution to this problem.... would you try it?

Sleeping pills are pretty simple but they have side effects and we all know it's not a true, long-term solution.  When you can't sleep, it's not a drug deficit that's your problem.  You KNOW you need a great night sleep not only for your health but for your mood so even if you're skeptical, I dare you to give this a try.....

1.  Essential Oils.  Diffuse them for 8 hours bedside.  Your best options to try include Lavender, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Sandalwood, and Serenity (a blend by doTERRA).  You can also dilute them with some coconut oil and apply topically to your skin.  We also have a fantastic supplement called Serenity that features natural plant extracts and works incredibly well.

2.  Take an Epsom Salt and Lavender bath.  This helps get to the root cause of your sleep issues and will relieve muscle and joint tension, head tension, sore feet and help you to RELAX away from screens, games, and other activities that aren't actually very relaxing.

3. Get the worries of the day off your mind. You can use a journal or talk to a friend but find a method that works for you to "give over" your troubles for the night so you can relax and rejuvenate.

4. Do a digital detox. No screens within 1 hour of bedtime.... yes, you! You can do it!  Hop off the computer, turn off the TV, and put down your phone.  Rediscover relaxing activities that you used to enjoy before screens were so prevalent.... reading, talking to a friend, crossword puzzle, knitting, meditation.... whatever floats your boat.

5. Get to the root cause.  It takes a bit of detective work but find out why you can't sleep. Perhaps you need to visit a functional medicine doctor who can uncover hormone imbalances. Maybe you don't have any tools to unwind and de-stress from life.  Perhaps you need to have a hard conversation with someone and you're putting it off.  There's no pill. oil, or habit that will totally fix your sleep until you do this detective work.
